Aviano Since we didn't have anything planned for the day we woke up later than usual. We needed the extra sleep after that long trip to Croatia and back. We decided for lunch we will have our last Italian food at a restaurant called Spaghetti House because of the variety and many options it has. I had a fettuccini with duck and cream sauce. I enjoyed my pasta it was very light but it was also very filling. We also got some fried mozzarella cheese balls. The outside was crunchy and it was very hot. At the end of the meal we got a free frozen desert that had a little alcohol in it. They had three flavor choices, strawberry, lemon, and maybe grape. The drink is called sgroppino and we got the lemon flavor. It was sweet and yummy, not like the grappa. After lunch Nick took us to a lake near his house, up the mountain called Barcis Lake. The lake was a bright bluish color that almost looked milky. It's a bit hard to describe the color but it was amazing and very cold, so we didn't go inside. We hiked around the lake, enjoyed nature, oh and saw a snake. The snake was very small and it was our first wild snake. Mary never touched a snake before so when she was about to it fell off the cliff! Smart snake. The view was beautiful and Nick's dog, Wasabi, was enjoying the walk. After walking a long peaceful walk we started seeing a more busier side of the lake. People everywhere enjoying the nice weather and the beautiful scenery. Children playing in the parks and dogs going for a stroll. We also saw a sign that says Gelato so we had to get one. As soon as I got my gelato I saw a street snack booth. One of the booth, a said "crepes con Nutella," I imagined the French crepe with Nutella but ended up getting a big fat crepe with Nutella. The lady put lots of sugar and little Nutella, the crepe part was a bit too much. Mary and I ended up licking what Nutella was on the crepe and throwing the crepe out. Don't judge us. As soon as we were done circling the lake it was dinner time. We headed back to Nick's place and enjoyed a relaxing night with a steak dinner, a movie, and sitting at the fireplace. Nick was nice enough to throw steaks on the grill and cook us a nice meal while we sat on the coach and did nothing. Before this dinner happened at the lake we saw an older gentleman barbecuing while three women were sitting at the picnic table drinking wine, laughing, and enjoying life. Mary and I both agreed that's how life should be, so we almost did our own version to poor Nick. I had a hard time picking a movie out of all the downloaded choices available and came across Hot Fuzz. I watched the movie a long time ago and was in a UK mood. British humor is interesting and funny. After the movie Nick suggested we use one of the fire places. Mary got into survival mood and made her first fire. She was very proud of it and I think she did a good job. It was a nice ending to our last night in Italy and I would like to thank Nick for taking us in, driving us around, and being a good host. Ciao. | Our final day in Aviano started with some pasta at a nearby Italian food restaurant near Nick's house. I got a yummy, creamy, fettuccini Alfredo pasta with peas and pieces of ham in it. The restaurant gave us bread to dip into olive oil and balsamic vinegar but their vinegar had a spicy kick to it which was actually pretty tasty. The pasta was really good but way too creamy so I started feeling sick and couldn't finish the whole plate. We ended the meal with a drink called sgroppino. Nick kept talking to us about how good it was how he really liked it so we had to try it. Just like he said, it was good! It's pretty much a lemon icee with some liquor in it. After lunch, Nick took us to a huge lake near the Aviano area. (Sorry, I don't remember the name.) The lake was a beautiful milk-blue color with completely still water. It's kind of weird to describe the color in that way but that's literally what it looked like. We ended up walking a two hour hike around the whole lake. While walking we came across a small, brown snake slithering on the side of the road near the trees! I was seriously just about to try touching it while Michelle recorded me but right when she got her iPad out the snake fell off the road down the hill. Like, really?! It would have made a cool video. Lol. Also while walking, we got some gelato and a failed crepe. This crepe was fat like pita bread and was covered in sugar. It was way too thick to eat and didn't have enough Nutella inside of it! After our lake hike, we went back home to pack and relax. We watched the movie Hot Fuzz which I saw for the first time and it was pretty funny. Then, Nick was so nice enough to cook us an American meal; steak!! After eating, Nick suggested we make a fire since his house had two fireplaces. I am proud to say that I started my first, very own fire! I set up the wood, used a lighter to light some old packing paper, and got a fire going! Must have been my Girl Scout instincts kicking in. Lol We then just chilled by the fire, sang some Frozen songs, then got ready for bed and got ready to leave Italy for Germany the next day. |
